So I’m going to preface this review with the fact that this is not my usual genre of choice. But I love checking out Maine authors and this caught my eye.

Milk is a short, psychological thriller that will leave you unsettled on purpose. Despite it’s length, you learn a lot about the characters and the picturesque setting where dark secrets lurk. Throughout the story we get prickles of unease but you aren’t quite sure why. I mean everyone seems happy, healthy, and loved.

Milk is that type of book that will leave you questioning the dark moral grey areas of the world at 3am. It packs a real punch for a novella.

I had to sit with my rating for a moment. Originally I said 4 stars because it was well written and everything I expected but because I’m not one for the psychological thrillers, I probably wouldn’t be reading it a second time.

However, this book sticks in your mind and is well written to boot. My 5 star rating is usually reserved for books I’d want to reread, books that gave me a strong emotional reaction, or books I can’t stop thinking about. So I’ve moved my rating up to 5 stars because it does exactly what I’d expect from the genre and I think others who read psychological thrillers would really enjoy this one. It definitely created a strong emotional reaction throughout the book and I don’t think I’ll be forgetting it anytime soon!
